Shop FAQ

Are prints limited?

I don’t believe in artificially limited prints. Therefore, all my photographers are numbered and signed, but sold in open series (if not stated otherwise). I don’t expect to sell huge quantities of print, and I will rotate which are available for sale. That way, you can expect every print to be well under 100 copies (read under 25).
And it must be said that for the analogue prints, two prints are never exactly the same.

Can I trust the photos in the shop?

No, not to 100 %. I try to make the photos on the website look as close as possible to the actual print. But it’s nearly impossible to get the tonality absolutely spot on.
And then you have to factor in that monitors differ in how they reproduce images, how it looks at my end will differ slightly from how it looks at your end.

Can you do custom sizes?

Maybe. I take great care in how I want my photographs to look in print, and that includes the size. Some images work as small and big prints, and some work best as one or the other.
With that said, send an email to shop@thatbeardedguy.photography and I’ll try and sort something out.

Are frames included?

No, unless stated otherwise.
Instead, I put the photograph into a mat (passepartout) with backing paper. I try to make this in a standard size, to make it easy to find a frame. The dimension of each print is stated in the description.

Are your prints archivable?

Yes, to the best of my knowledge, they are. If they are properly taken care of.
Even though I can’t guarantee it.

All prints (and paintings) need protection. For photographs, they should be protected from UV light (put behind UV-protecting
glass ) and hung in an archival mat and backboard.
If you hang the print with its included mat and backboard in a frame with proper glass, it should last.

What paper quality do you use?

Digital prints are made from an external printer I trust and on high-quality paper. I use Hahnemühle Photo Rag – Fine art paper if nothing else is stated.

For darkroom prints, I use both fibre paper and resin-coated (RC paper). Fibre paper is the classic paper base and has been used for 100 years or so, and is generally considered as the archival proof choice.
RC papers have long been discussed if they are archival or not. To my knowledge, this has never been properly tested, but I also know there are photographs from the 80s-90s on RC paper that still look good.

My main paper is fibre-based; I do use RC paper to be able to offer prints at a lower price point. They are significantly faster and easier to print.
The specific paper used for each print is stated in the description.

Why do prices vary so much?

Time, effort and production cost.
Digital is cheaper to produce than analogue silver gelatine prints.
The initial effort that goes into making the exposure is about the same for digital and analogue. Which shouldn’t be underestimated.
But for the analogue images, the post-processing and printing take a lot of time and effort. Which I enjoy, but a single picture often needs multiple runs before arriving at the final print. Which, besides the actual time effort, also means a higher material cost in paper and chemicals.
It’s a process that I enjoy, but it also means I have a base cost of a print to consider when pricing my prints.

With all this said, I do try and keep my prints fairly affordable, but still value my own time and work.

That’s the reason why my digital prints are cheaper than my analogue.

I often also make test prints at a smaller size than my intended larger print. If I feel these test prints are of high enough quality, I put them up at a reduced price on my shop for a limited time.

Side note: I’m looking into setting up a print-on-demand service, to be able to offer some prints at even lower costs.

Will you offer anything else besides prints?

For the moment, I only offer prints.
I have some plans for a Zine-magazine, and maybe a calendar, but that’s in the future.

Do you ship worldwide?

No, but I do shipt to EU, UK, USA and Canada
If you live outside these regions contact me via e-mail (shop@thatbeardedguy.photography) and we’ll see if we can sort anything out.

How much is shipping?

Within Sweden, the shipping costs 100 SEK. For orders of 800 SEK or more, shipping is free of charge (within Sweden). Within the EU and UK it’s 300 SEK (~28 €).
USA and Canada is unfortunately expensive for me to ship to, and will cost 500 SEK (~55 $).

Side note: I’m looking into Print On Demand solutions to be able to offer prints in America (USA and Canada) at a more reasonable cost.

How about tax, customs and VAT?

I’m based in Sweden, so within the EU this it’s included in the price seen on the shop page, as I do sell for less than 300 000 SEK it’s exempt from VAT.

For the USA, Canada, and USA, it’s the responsibility of the buyer to pay these.
However, I will label the packages correctly, and there’s an art exemption that I do think my photographs will fall under. Therefore, there’s a good chance that you don’t have to pay anything more than what’s seen in the shop. However, do not I can’t guarantee this, especially not to the USA with the current uncertainty regarding import duties.
It’s you, the customer, who’s responsible for paying tax and customs.

Is it possible to return a print if I’m not happy?

Yes, to a certain extent.
All prints are custom-made; therefore, returns aren’t covered by EU regulations. However, I do believe one should be able to see and return a photograph if they don’t like it. Therefore,
you have 14 days from receiving the print to make a return. If you wish to make a return, send an email to shop@thatbeardedguy.photograph before posting it.

If you make an order for a larger quantity of prints, I don’t offer returns, as it would financially ruin me. But don’t worry, I’ll contact you before I finalise these orders. If you haven’t heard anything, you have a return window of 14 days.

Note! I’m not able to offer free shipping for the returns.
